Editor's Note

After forty years of disappointments, difficulties and bumps on the road, growing up in a Palestinian refugee camp, spending years of displacement in Beirut and self-exile in Berlin, London, Paris, Montréal and Moscow, I decided to spend the rest of my life working exclusively for the common good of the humankind-A.G.

  • Casino Capitalism: How Credit Unions Survived the Crash

While the reckless giant banks are shattering like an over-heated glacier day by day, the nation's credit unions are a relative island of calm largely apart from the vortex of casino capitalism.
  • HONEST DEBATE PROHIBITED.

Mr. President, rational argument and honest debate is prohibited on certain issues precisely because there is no rational justification for a long list of destructive U. S. government policies, procedures and actions. The following products of our political system are stunning in their irrationality and destructiveness. But they are exactly what we should expect from an intellectually dishonest (thus insane) political system:

  • CNBC Editor: The People Are Revolting!

In the annals of CNBC cluelessness, this morning’s outburst by the channel’s Rick Santelli is up there with the worst. This is an example of what’s wrong with a certain kind of financial journalism, the kind where people of like backgrounds spend all day staring at tickers and interviewing each other.
  • Kissinger’s recovery plan: New World Order or chaos

The American Recovery and Reinvestment Act passed this week will define Barack Obama’s presidency. But it is really just the younger sibling to the Troubled Assets Relief Programme.

  • Malcolm X on Zionism

I was a child in the 60's and barely aware of Malcolm X. My opinion, such as it was, was tainted by the biased media portrayal of the man. This article is a revelation to me - now I want to know more about who Malcolm X was and what he stood for and achieved.
  • Rahm's Rent Is Just The Tip Of The Ethics Iceberg

NEWS broke last week that Rahm Emanuel, now White House chief of staff, lived rent- free for years in the home of Rep. Rosa De Lauro (D-Conn.) - and failed to disclose the gift, as congressional ethics rules mandate. But this is only the tip of Emanuel's previously undislosed ethics problems.

  • It's Time To Rethink Zionism

The desire for ethnic purity that drove out Palestinians and bars the way to democracy in Israel is the rotten fruit of an old debate
  • The President of Special Interests

The Bush/Obama bailout/stimulus plans are not going to work. Both are schemes hatched by a clique of financial insiders. The schemes will redistribute income and wealth from American taxpayers to the shyster banksters, who have destroyed American jobs, ruined the retirement plans of tens of millions of Americans, and worsened the situation of millions of people worldwide who naively trusted American financial institutions. The ongoing theft has simply been recast. Instead of using fraudulent financial instruments, the banksters are using government policy.
  • Davos Debt & Denial; In an age of illusion, the guise of truth is often heresy

The gathering of the world’s economic elites in Davos, Switzerland is a reflection of the reigning power dynamic of the modern world. Officially titled, the World Economic Forum, Davos is sponsored by the world’s most powerful and wealthy corporations and presents itself as a “not-for-profit” entity.
  • Eastern Europe is about to Blow

Eastern Europe is about to blow. If it does, it could take much of the EU with it. It's an emergency situation but there are no easy solutions. The IMF doesn't have the resources for a bailout of this size and the recession is spreading faster than relief efforts can be organized. Finance ministers and central bankers are running in circles trying to put out one fire after another. Its only a matter of time before they are overtaken by events. If one country is allowed to default, the dominoes could begin to tumble through the whole region. This could trigger dramatic changes in the political landscape. The rise of fascism is no longer out of the question.
  • Obama’s voodoo economics; Deficit Nonchalance

Who remembers economists’ hysteria over the “Reagan deficits”? Wall Street was in panic. Reagan’s fiscal irresponsibility was bringing the end of the world.
  • Obama is Throwing Public Money into a Black Hole

Tuesday, February 10, may be the date when the U.S. economy officially entered into an economic depression. This was when President Obama's Treasury Secretary, Timothy Geithner, announced that the Obama administration was about to expand Bush's Secretary Paulson's $700-billion plan to rescue large U.S. banks from insolvency, euphemistically called the Troubled Assets Relief Program (TARP).

  • Israel Lurches Into Fascism

Whenever Israel has an election, pundits begin the usual refrain that hopes for peace depend on the "peace camp" -- formerly represented by the Labor party, but now by Tzipi Livni's Kadima -- prevailing over the anti-peace right, led by the Likud.
  • Capitalism’s Self-inflicted Apocalypse

If the paladins of Corporate America want to know what really threatens "our way of life," it is their way of life, their boundless way of pilfering their own system, destroying the very foundation on which they stand, the very community on which they so lavishly feed.

  • American Apologies

“Our way of life” (in the more general sense) not only needs to be apologized for, it needs to be permanently altered...in a major way.
  • The Politics Of Bollocks

Growing up in an Antipodean society proud of its rich variety of expletives, I never heard the word bollocks. It was only on arrival in England that I understood its majesterial power. All classes used it. Judges grunted it; an editor of the Daily Mirror used it as noun, adjective and verb. Certainly, the resonance of a double vowel saw off its closest American contender. It had authority.

  • Irish Civil Society Calls For Boycott of Israel

Israel has never declared its borders. Instead, it has continuously expanded at the expense of the Palestinians. In 1948, it took over 78 percent of Palestine, an area much larger than that suggested for a Jewish state by the UN General Assembly in 1947.

  • The War on Terror is a Hoax

According to US government propaganda, terrorist cells are spread throughout America, making it necessary for the government to spy on all Americans and violate most other constitutional protections. Among President Bush’s last words as he left office was the warning that America would soon be struck again by Muslim terrorists.
